Learn How To Complete Effective Process Internal Audits
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE APPRENTICESHIP
This apprenticeship is suited to individuals working across public, private or voluntary sectors who are involved in internal auditing, compliance, risk or governance activities.
The Internal Audit Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship focuses on developing the skills needed to provide independent assurance on how effectively a business is operating. Learners are trained to review processes, assess risk, and evaluate whether controls are in place and working as they should, helping organisations identify issues early and make informed decisions.
Internal auditors play a key role in supporting strong corporate governance. This programme builds the confidence to carry out audits in a structured way, report findings clearly, and support improvements that strengthen how the organisation operates overall.
On completion, learners achieve industry-recognised professional status, including the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Certificate in Internal Audit and Business Risk, as well as the Internal Audit Practitioner designation.

Internal audit plays a key role in giving organisations visibility of how effectively their processes, controls and systems are working. The Internal Audit Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship helps employers develop employees who can carry out structured audits, identify risks and provide clear, evidence-based insights to support better decision-making.
Because the programme is delivered through work-based learning, employees develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours while continuing in their role. This means audits are carried out more consistently, risks are identified earlier, and issues can be addressed before they become more serious or costly.
With stronger internal auditing capability in place, businesses gain greater confidence in their operations, improve compliance with internal and external requirements, and create a more proactive approach to managing risk.
Investing in this apprenticeship also supports staff development and retention by providing employees with a clear progression pathway, while strengthening the organisation’s internal audit function and reducing reliance on external support.
If you’re already working in a role linked to internal audit, compliance, risk or governance but want to feel more confident in what you’re doing, the Internal Audit Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship is designed to help you take the next step.
This work-based programme helps you strengthen the practical skills you use in your role. From planning and carrying out audits to reviewing processes, identifying risks and reporting findings, the apprenticeship focuses on the skills that help organisations understand how well they are operating.
Because the apprenticeship is completed alongside your job, you can apply what you learn straight away. Many learners find they become more confident in carrying out audits, asking the right questions and communicating their findings clearly within the business.
Whether you want to improve your performance in your current role or move into a more specialised internal audit position, this apprenticeship helps you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to support stronger governance and better decision-making across your organisation.
- Internal auditing knowledge and standards understanding.
- Risk assessment and audit planning capabilities.
- Compliance auditing and reporting proficiency.
