Working with RNN Group through DTEC gives us the opportunity to work collaboratively with employers and other partners across the region

Clear Quality is pleased to be working with RNN Group as part of its Defence Technical Excellence College (DTEC), supporting businesses across South Yorkshire to develop the skills and capability needed to access opportunities within the defence sector.

The partnership was highlighted at RNN Group's first DTEC event at Rotherham College on 22 September, attended by our CEO Debbie Whitehead and Growth & Development Manager Amber Murphy.

The event brought together businesses and partners from across South Yorkshire to discuss the opportunities within defence, the skills and capability gaps businesses are facing and what support employers need to access those opportunities.

A key focus of DTEC is understanding what employers need from defence training, with dedicated funding available to develop local training solutions around those needs.

Clear Quality's role within DTEC

As part of DTEC, Clear Quality will become an integral spoke organisation, enabling us to deliver programmes through DTEC and support businesses within the local defence economy.

Simon Hartley, Skills Consultant Team Leader at RNN Group, said:

For Clear Quality, our role will focus on helping businesses develop the skills, systems and capability they need to become ready to enter and grow within the defence supply chain.

This builds on the work we already do with businesses across quality management, ISO standards, compliance and workforce development.

What does being 'defence ready' actually mean?

Having a product or service that could be supplied into defence is only part of the picture.

Businesses also need to understand the standards, systems, security, compliance and workforce capability that may be expected when working within defence supply chains.

That's why we're also developing our Defence Readiness Academy, bringing these areas together and helping businesses understand where they are now, what they may need to put in place and what support is available to help them get there.

This could include support around quality and environmental management systems, aerospace quality requirements, security and resilience, governance, compliance and workforce skills.

Supporting South Yorkshire businesses

There is a huge amount happening around defence across South Yorkshire and we want local businesses to be in the strongest possible position to benefit from the opportunities this creates.

Working with RNN Group through DTEC gives us the opportunity to work collaboratively with employers and other partners across the region, understand the barriers businesses are facing and develop practical support around what they actually need.
